Roger Federer not play in Switzerland's Davis Cup play off tie with Kazakhstan.
The twenty nine year old crashed out of the U.S. Open in the semi final to Novak Djokovic on Saturday after wasting two match point chances.
And while the tie will decide which side stays in the world group of the Davis Cup the former world number one has decided not to play but to rest after the American hard court season.
He wrote on his official website: "I have decided not to join the Davis Cup team to Kazakhstan.
"I need some extra time to relax after the intense weeks in North America so I can finish the year strong."
It's been an up and down year for Federer as, after winning the Australian Open back in January, his form dipped on the clay. He was unable to defend his French Open title, falling to Robin Soderling in the quarter finals.
He also suffered an earlier than expected exit at Wimbledon, where he was also defending champion, as he fell to eventual finalist Tomas Berdych in the quarter finals.
But he looked in good form on the hard courts reaching the final of the Toronto Masters, losing to Andy Murray, before defending his Cincinnati masters crown.
Despite not being the top seed at the U.S. Open he went into the tournament as the favourite but he couldn't see off Djokovic and fell in the semi-final, he had only made one Grand Slam final in 2010; he played in all our in 2009.
