Roger Federer barely broke a sweat in his semi final against Jo-Wilfred Tsonga as he brushed the Frenchman aside to set up a final clash with Andy Murray.

It took the world number one just eighty eight minutes to secure a 6-2 6-3 6-2 in a match that was not the showdown that everyone had hoped for.

The pair had only met twice and the head to head was delicately poised at one win each. Tsonga, despite coming through some tough matches had been in fine form and was expected to push Federer all the way.

It became evident early in the opening set that Tsonga was going to struggle as Federer broke to take a 3-1 lead.

And there was no way back for the Frenchman in the first set as his serve came under constant pressure while he failed to threaten the Federer serve.

With some impressive and dominant play Federer, who is looking to win the Australian Open for the first time since 2007, he wrapped up the opening set in just over thirty minutes.

There was more of the same as the match continued there was no fight from Tsonga who looked lethargic and drained and appeared to accept his fate.

Federer on the other hand played some of the best tennis of the entire tournament and show no signs of the dips in concentration that had plagued him against Davydenko and Andreev in earlier matches.

He dominated for start to finish and no amount of crowd support for Tsonga could get him to lift his game as his serve was erratic and his forehand wild.

Speaking on court after the match Federer, who has reached his twenty second Grand Slam title said: I'm very happy to be through.

"It is always difficult to play top players, sometimes it plays out the way you want it to and sometimes you have to work a lot harder.

"It was just so important to win that first set and get that good start.

"I thought it was quite intense early but maybe he was more fatigued mentally than physically, I think that showed near the end."

But Federer will now face a tougher opponent in the form of Andy Murray, who has dropped just one set on route to the final.

It's the second time that the pair have met in a Grand Slam final, Federer beating Murray in straight set at the U.S. Open in 2008.

Murray came through his semi-final match yesterday in four sets after dropping the opener to Marin Cilic. The Scot is looking for his maiden Grand Slam title.
