Serena Williams was back on court today and had another straightforward victory over Petra Kvitova.

Despite heavy strapping on her right thigh Williams looked in deadly form as she attempts to defend her Australian Open title.

Her opponent had no answer to her powerful play and she wrapped up a 6-2 6-1 victory in just over an hour.

Serena will now meet Spaniard Carla Suarez Navarro in the third round after she saw off Andrea Petkovic with little trouble 6-1 6-4

It was a similar story for sister Venus as she to enjoyed another straight set victory over Sybille Bammer 6-2 7-5.

With two break of serve in the opening set Williams took a commanding lead but the momentum sung the way of her opponent in the second.

A fight back from Bammer was on the cards early in the second as she opened up a 3-1 lead over the former world number one but Venus battled back to keep her on course to meet her sister in the semi-final.

However it wasn't good news for former French Open champion Ana Ivanovic as her form issues continue crashing out to Gisela Dulko after three tight sets.

It was close from the word go and Ivanovic, who has seen herself slide down the rankings in the last year, edged the first set in the tie break.

But Dulko fought back to cause the biggest upset of day four with a 6-7 (6-8) 7-5 6-4 victory.

There were no problems for fourth seed Caroline Wozniacki as she saw off Julia Goerges 6-3 6-1

Victoria Azarenka was also not in the mood to hang around as she progressed to the third round with a 6-4 6-0 victory over Stefanie Voegele.

It was a good day for the seeds all around as ninth seed Vera Zvonareva beat Iveta Benesova 6-0 6-3 while tenth seed Agnieszka Radwanska also progressed with a straight sets 6-0 6-2 win over Alla Kudryavtseva.

And while Lleyton Hewitt is giving the Aussie fans something to cheer about in the men's competition Australian number one Samantha Stosur is also keeping the home hopes alive on the women's side.

Stosur enjoyed a straight sets 7-5 6-3 win over  Kristina Barrois, much to the delight of the fans on the Rod Laver arena.
