Svetlana Kuznetsova’s poor season continues as she fell to compatriot and thirtieth seed Maria Kirilenko. The defending champion only just scrapped through her pervious match and she was in trouble again this evening as she dropped the opening set 6-3. But the 2009 French Open winner, who beat Dinara Safina in a shock win twelve months ago, battled back, as she had in her previous match, comfortably taking the second 6-2. And while it looked like the comeback was on it was not to be as Kirilenko got the vital break that she need to wrap up the match 6-3 2-6 6-4. Kirilenko will now face Francesca Schiavone, as she dropped just six games in a 6-4 6-2 win over eleventh seed Na Li. Venus Williams continued her fine form as she eased past Dominika Cibulkova 6-3 6-4 and is yeat to drop a set at this year’s tounament. But fifth seed Elena Dementieva had a more difficult passage to the fourth round as she fought back after losing a closely contested opening set. The first set was won by Aleksandra Wozniak, who dominated the tie reak 7-2, before the Olympic champion hit back to take the next two 6-3 6-4.
