Taylor Dent has retired from tennis at the age of twenty nine.
The big hitting American has been as high as world number twenty one during his twelve year career, that was back in 2005, but has been plagued by injuries in recent years.
A statement read: "I had the privilege to compete at the highest level for 12 years, see places in the world I would have never been able to see without tennis, and meet people along the way that have become lifelong friends.
"I am looking forward to spending more time with my family, especially with my wife Jenny and our son Declan.
"I want to continue to stay active in the tennis industry and I am excited to explore opportunities in the world of tennis that my full tournament schedule never allowed me to do."
Dent has been severely hampered by back injuries and has undergone three back operations, the first in 2006. While his ranking fell due to being on the sidelines he fought his way back into the top 100 last season.
Dent has four career titles to his name, winning in Newport, Memphis, Bangkok and Moscow with a fourth round best at Wimbledon and the U.S. Open.
