When Will Juan Martin Del Potro Return?

Juan Martin Del Potro’s return to competition is still surrounded in uncertainty… will he or won’t try to defend his U.S. Open title?

After his stunning five set win over Roger Federer twelve months ago at Flushing Meadows the Argentinean has been dogged with tendonitis in his wrist.

He underwent surgery back in May and was forced to miss the French Open and Wimbledon as he tried to get back to full fitness.

While it was believed that Del Potro would not defend his U.S. Open title claiming just after the surgery that he didn’t want ‘to rush things’ last week it seemed that he would in fact be ready to play.

And while he is on the Open’s entry list it seems that De Potro may not be making his comeback until the Thailand Open at the end of September.

He told thailandopen.org: “ I am looking forward to playing the PTT Thailand Open on my return from injury.

“I really enjoyed myself on my last visit to Bangkok and hope for good results at this year's tournament”

Del Potro’s absence from the tour has seen his ranking suffer as he has slipped from a career high of number four down to number seven.

So it remains to be seem when Del Potro will make his tennis return.
