Konta earns Sevastova revenge

Johanna Konta earned revenge for her US Open exit after beating Anastasija Sevastova at the China Open.

The British number one secured the first-round win with a 6-1 6-1 victory over the Latvian who failed to cope with the in-form 25-year-old Briton.

Konta only dropped just two points on her first serve and it was a simple route into the second round of the competition where she will come up against Hungary's world number 25 Timea Babos.

After losing to Sevastova in the Big Apple last month, the win will have been a sweet one for Konta, who managed to reach the quarter-finals of the Wuhan Open last week, only to be knocked out by eventual winner Petra Kvitova.

Konta, who is seeded 11th for the China Open, still remains in with a chance of qualifying for the season-ending WTA Finals with the top eight players in the rankings set to compete in Singapore.
