Mardy Fish’s run of good form continued as he reached the final of the Roger’s Cup in Montreal with a straight sets win over Janko Tipsarevic.
Fish has already enjoyed good wins this week over Stanislas Wawrinka, Ernests Gulbis and Feliciano Lopez and looks in fine form ahead of the U.S. Open in a couple of weeks.
And the American was in control from the off as he got the early break in the first set. Tipsarevic was playing in his first Masters 1000 semi-final and was not able to get back on level terms.
Fish took the opening set 6-3 and looked to be cruising to a win when he broke early in the second to take an immediate advantage.
But Tipsarevic battled back as errors littered the Fish service game and the Serb broke to level at 2-2.
But Fish soon regained his composure and the break advantage three games later - that was enough to see him seal a 6-3 6-4 victory.
Speaking to the ATP after the match Fish said: "It's a dream come true. I desperately wanted to go into the US Open in the Top 10.
“I'm not sure where this puts me now or if it moves me at all. At least it gives me a little cushion against some of the guys that are coming up."
Fish has played some fine tennis in recent weeks lifting the title in Atlanta, beating compatriot John Isner, before making the final in LA, eventually losing to Ernests Gulbis.
