The Cinematics Review: The Twilight Sad – Forget the Night Ahead
07 Oct 2009We’re constantly asked about the Glasgow music scene, as if there was really such a thing as a “scene” anywhere. We spend a great deal of time on tour overseas so I can’t truly say that I’m au fait with the musical output from the city, but one inimitable band that I have a great deal of respect for is the Twilight Sad.

The Cinematics Review: The Moons – Torn Between Two
07 Oct 2009From the psychedelic chord-patterns to the just-audible organ, it’s hard to escape comparisons with the Doors here. We’re all limited by the same twelve notes, and sometimes it’s pointless trying to reinvent the wheel, but this song is retro, retro and retro again.

The Cinematics Review: Screaming Lights - Hello Tomorrow
07 Oct 2009The bit of blurb on the front of the CD cover says they share a fair bit with fellow Liverpudlians Teardrop Explodes and Echo and the Bunneymen, this just isn’t true. This is by no means a slur on the actual music, I just find it hilarious when bands (including mine) are given comparisons which bear no resemblance to them at all.

The Cinematics Review: The Boy Who Trapped the Sun - Watermark EP
07 Oct 2009I know these guys, they are friends of ours. We got to know them as they were some of the few musicians kicking around the highland music scene at the same time as us in the early naughties. He is from the picturesque and remote Isle of Lewis which has had knack of giving birth too many great musicians of late.
