Research from Standard Life Bank reveals that 55% of people feel life has become too predictable and cosseted, with almost two thirds(65%) disclosing that the pressures of work and lifestyle make them feel unhappy and unhealthy.

The 'career break' generation of 30- to 50-somethings feel this the most, with 41% asking themselves 'there must be more to life than this' up to three times a week, as they seek adventure and achievement away from the mundane.

Looking to redress the work-life balance - the average age of a round-the-world ticket purchaser is now 32 - this generation see escaping the rat-race as the perfect solution.

Mental and physical challenge, exploration and fulfilment are all pre-requisites to life-changing adventure with a guaranteed output of discovering new limits. But where do you start? And how do you pay for it?
