The Sidings at night

Looking for somewhere to take the kids for a break this school holiday? Or somewhere to go for a once in a lifetime experience? The Sidings Hotel is something to be visited this year if you are looking for a hotel with a difference!

The Sidings Hotel and Restaurant was founded in 1985 by an ex-railwayman who was obsessed by everything railways. It has a brick built building in the centre that has 5 Pullman carriages spiking from it on either side. Some of the carriages feature a restaurant, whereby at tables to seat four people, guests can see the track from the window of the York to Thirsk run. The other carriages have been converted into bedrooms, all with newly fitted bathrooms and have the option of; single, twin, doubles and the four-poster double. The hotel boasts many railway collectables and visual stimuli for enthusiasts to admire.  It gives guests a feel of what it was like to travel in the early 1920s as well as being able to have extensive views of the Yorkshire countryside.

The Sidings is the perfect venue for any occasion, for a special meal with family or friends or a wedding it provides a unique experience for everyone to enjoy, even if they are not a railway enthusiast. It has two conference rooms, which are also converted carriages and can accommodate any business needs.

I visited this hotel years ago and was very impressed by the appeal of feeling what it was like for guests from years gone by. The rooms were comfortable, spacious and still embodied all of their original charm. The bathrooms were modern yet not too far removed from the rest of the décor. I thoroughly enjoyed the dining experience, the food was of a very high standard and the views were stunning. I would definitely go back to stay here for the sheer novelty of it all and would recommend it to anyone wanting a memorable occasion.
