Festival's in Cornwall are a great way to end your summer

Head west is the message, to take in one of the many late summer live music festivals In Cornwall. From the Relentless Boardmasters, St Ives September, Bude Jazz and Looe Music Festivals or the brand new Human Race Festival of Sport Cornwall, with its star-studded music line up at Marazion, there is a festival to tempt all.

St Ives Music and Arts Festival

St Ives has hosted its annual music and arts festival in September since 1978. The festival, held this year from 8-22 September, provides 15 days of entertainment at eight different locations throughout this picturesque destination with live music, extensive arts workshops and exhibitions, open studios, theatre, comedy, films, cabaret, street entertainment and walks, all featuring in this gem of a festival. Billy Brag, Kate Rusby, the defining voice of contemporary English Folk Music and The Fishermen’s Friends shanty singers all headline this year. Other highlights include Chris Wood and Steve Tilson, Juan Martin, The Blockheads, The Backbeat Beatles, Peatbog Faeries, Cara Dillon and the Counterfeit Stones. The programme is packed full of amazing not-to-be-missed artists.

Relentless Energy Drink Boardmasters in Association with Vans

The UK's biggest surf, skate and music festival returns to Newquay from 8-12 August. Watergate Bay is the venue for the legendary two-day music festival which hosts a fantastic line up with Ed Sheeran and Dizzy Rascal headlining and The Ting Tings. Donavan Frankenreiter, Zane Lowe, Ruarri Joseph and Maverick Sabre will play on the main stage amongst many others. Catch one of the evening Beach Sessions at Fistral on 8, 9 and 12 August with Reel Big Fish, Xavier Rudd and The Black Seeds headlining. Listen to new and established acts in the perfect setting overlooking the ocean as the sun goes down!

The Human Race Festival of Sport

This featival takes place against the stunning backdrop of St. Michael's Mount, Cornwall, from 14-16 September. The live music programme includes British Rock Band Reef of “Place Your Hands” fame, Dry the River and Cornwall based Ruarri Joseph. Also part of the 10-strong music line ­up are Kezia, Moonlet & The Love Monks, Patrick James Pearson Band, Brother & Bones, The Struts and Steve Smyth. Sportsmen and women, as well as music fans, will travel from all over the UK to attend the unique festival in its debut year.

Bude Jazz 2012

Bude has been involved in staging jazz festivals for 25 years and is renowned world-wide for its support for the music. The festival features four fabulous days of jazz. It bubbles over with a carnival atmosphere of music, fun, dance and colour with over 30 bands, 10 venues, over 10 gigs each day and features a street parade, charity concert and jazz picnic. This year the festival runs from 28-31 August, including international artists Jeff Barnhart (USA), Ivory and Gold (USA), Dorine De Wit (Holland), as well as a vast line up of home grown jazz bands and performers. The whole of this seaside town resounds to infectious jazz rhythms which take to the streets in this eagerly anticipated festival.

Looe Music Festival

Looe will take place from 21-23 September, taking the seaside town by storm in its second year. The festival will get audiences thronging to music of every genre, with local, national and international performers wowing audiences over three days. Live music will be hosted at three main venues in Looe; the beach, harbour side and town centre, each with its own distinct atmosphere. Over 60 bands are confirmed, with still more bands at additional soundstages in local pubs and clubs promising an amazing weekend. Highlights include The Stranglers, Levellers, The Skints, The Lambrettas and a host of further highlights in an exciting festival line up.
