But why?

But why?

On the Beach have found that Brits are not comfortable with swimming in the sea on holiday, so we find out why!

Prefer hotel pool- It’s sand free, close to a bar, has no risk of any strange entities biting at your toes, you can go back to your hotel room within minutes- there are no downsides!

Scared of swimming in the sea- We have all watched Jaws- you can’t see the bottom- so there is no telling what is swimming underneath you licking their lips at the sight of your nearly bare behind!

Too cold- The hotel pool is at least heated- and you don’t have to count to five before you get in! And it doesn’t get any warmer the longer you are in there! You can't run to a shower to warm up either!

Too dirty- Who knows what you will swallow when you take an accidental gulp of sea water after a wave crashes into you unexpectedly- someone’s wee, a used plaster, a dead fish- urgh!

Can’t swim- People take it for granted that others simply can’t swim- it’s not a matter of not wanting to or not- they just don’t have the ability. Perhaps it’s time to take a holiday in the middle of a city then!

Alistair Daly, Chief Marketing Officer for On the Beach commented:

“It's seem a shame that many people are not confident in the water, be it in the pool or sea, which can make a huge difference to the enjoyment of your holiday, especially for children. Most hotels offer fantastic swimming pools for both adults and kids, and Spain alone has 550 Blue Flag beaches which means that not only are the beaches up to standard, but the water has been tested for its cleanliness and bathing quality."
