Cadwaladers Ice Cream

Cadwaladers Ice Cream

The Cadwaladers Ice Cream Café in Criccieth is one of many branches in England and Wales and a must if you are traveling to the area. The Cadwaladers name actually began here by David and Hannah and has stood the test of time ever since. Dating back to 1927, it has been supplying England and Wales with a large selection of ice creams, drinks and snacks for generations. It is now proud to boast that it has its own blend of espresso, hot chocolate and loose leaf tea.

Cadwaladers still serves their ice cream with the secret ingredient that was developed by Hannah Cadwalader herself all those years ago, so make sure you try a scoop to guess what it might be!

The café is deceptive, from the street all you can see is the ice cream counter, but don’t let this fool you for if you take a look inside there is a long line of tables which lead to a large window at the bottom that looks right out to sea. Never before have I been in a café with such stunning views, so don’t forget to take your camera. If you are lucky enough to get a seat overlooking the skyline and sea, make sure you take the time to enjoy your beverage and food, for you will likely not have such an opportunity again in any other cafe!

The staff were friendly and brought our Cream Tea, Raspberry Iced Tea and Blueberry Flapjack promptly despite how busy it was. The food and drink was delicious, proving that the name has remained true to its routes with traditional home cooked treats reminiscent of something your mother or grandmother would make. Given it's well established name- it's prices are still very reasonable- so ideal for large families, without loosening the purse strings too much.

The amount of people coming and going from families, couples and groups of friends was testament to how popular a venue this café is to the locals and visitors alike.

With other places open to eat, it seemed to be the hub of the town when we visited. This particular branch is having its outside refurbished currently but don’t let this put you off for there are many delights inside!
