Canvas

If you want to have fun in the sun and boy did we have fun, then look no further than Canvas holidays.

Canvas Holidays have a number of holiday parks around Europe we were invited along to Berny Riviere with a group of writers from a number of publications by Canvas Holidays to a lovely camp site an hour from Disney. For me the thought of camping holidays makes me think farmers fields, tents, hard floors, sleeping bags, and no sleep - well not any more.

The views

The accommodation
We arrived at Camping la Croix du Vieux Pont which is 53 miles from Paris and just outside of Soissons. To say I was surprised by what I saw was an understatement as I said camping I automatically thought of tents well we were put in luxury four bedroomed log cabins with all the mod cons. Our accommodation had everything you could wish for, and more all the home comforts you would need for a family self-catering holiday gas BBQ area for the nights on the deck with a large glass or two of wine. All the accommodation even down to the tents have everything you need including bbq’s, for outside living it was brilliant. Something for every ones budget

The site was so well set out we were staying in log cabins which over looked one of the three lakes that the site is set around our location was spectacular the log cabins were huge ours, one of the four bed type which sleeps 10 are really well laid out, set over two levels upstairs comprising of 3 bedrooms a double a twin room with bunk beds and then another one a twin with a pull out bed underneath and a large spacious bathroom and separate toilet and then downstairs a double bed with shower room and toilet, large living come dining room and a well-stocked kitchen.Outside is a large terrace with BBQ's and seating , what more could you want. All the lodges have large gardens and beautiful views, ours overlooked one of the lakes and a children's play area.

On site activities

Sampling the on site entertainment
After our meet and greet and lunch we went to see the indoor pool where they had an inflatable ball which you got in and then tried to say up right whilst walking on water, it made me dizzy just watching, big Craig made it look easy lots of practice there I bet. The are 3 pools including the swimming pool which has a retractable roof for those hot sunny days, it also had an outside swimming area with, restaurant and bar close at hand. A large supermarket and they were in the process of adding a Quasar and bowling alley.

Later we all met up with the two Craig's, the events co ordinaters we were put in to 2 teams with 2 chants Australia versus Barbados we played daft games, which had us all in stitches, cross bows family Olympics and finally the hammer which I have to say I excelled at, but maybe that was because I was the only one to get it up in a tree, im still not sure how they got it down. But it really did break the ice oh and buy the way I was on the winning team ha ha sorry Barbados.

After our exciting win, we were given a tour of the Park which is situated around 3 large lakes, one which was outside our Cabin had pedlows and fishing going on, one of the other ones has been filled with sand so its very much like being at the beach with parasols really pretty. The accommodation ranges from 4, 3 and 2 bed luxury log Cabins ,static mobile homes 2 and 3 bedrooms all with the same excellent finish all with gardens so you have your own space and it so well planned, and then we were shown the tents huge with so much space even the beds in them have sprung mattresses and again they all have a BBQ and outside table and chairs for chilling while watching the world go by.

After the guided tour we went back to our cabins freshened up and all met for our evening meal, it was a real good time to catch up on the day's events and the high lights so far, after a lovely meal and a walk over to the beach bar we had a night cap then off to bed.

Places to visit
Next morning showered and ready for the off Disney here we come . I have never been to Disney and I wasn’t expecting it to be as big as it was, other member of our group had been so were able to guide us in the right direction for what we wanted some wanted to go on the rides, some to go shopping it was amazing but I never had the time to fully appreciate it, so I will have to do it again this time with the kids. They have already asked me if they can go to Berny Riviere Its one of those places if you have young kids you would never see them , the park has one way in and out, a massive play area, swimming inside and out and soon bowling alley and quasar, so while the kids are having a good time you go and visit the spa and have a bit of pampering, I know that’s what I would like ,and if that’s not enough they have regular coach trips to Paris and Disney you would need to check at reception timetables.

Canvas Holidays celebrates its 50th anniversary in 2014 so keep up the good work
