I was lucky enough to be invited a long with a group of journalist to see for myself Sardinia, to be honest it's not a place I ever thought of as a holiday destination but how wrong was that, and I have truly fallen in love with the place and the people are a rather special to.
Sardinia is only a 2 hours flight from Manchester, with Olbia being the nearest airport for us and one of two airports in Sardinia. Taxis can be arranged for you by the Delphina hotel you're staying at, ours took us approximately an hour to the resort. We were staying in the Valle Dell Erica in Santa Teresa Gallura, a 5* luxury resort, and you can definitely see why.
On arrival at the Valle Dell Erica, we were met by staff, a who took our luggage to our rooms, while the receptionist told us all about the resort, the restaurant, the pools and the spa.
We were then taken out on to a large sun terrace, just to be blown away by the views. We were then treated to a little aperitif and a glass of prosecco before the full guided tour by golf buggy and boy was I glad as we seemed to be driving for a good 15 minutes. Really when you actually walk around it’s a lot quicker following the walk ways through the 28 hectares of perfumed natural gardens with the most amazing rock features all totally natural and stunning. After our tour, it was back to the rooms to get showered and changed for dinner.
The rooms were huge with everything and more you could need luxurious furnishing a giant bed mine had a couch and lounge chairs all rooms overlook the sea, decorated with traditional artwork tapestries which was really beautiful. A special feature of all the bathrooms they have glass panels so you can see the sea view. All suites, and rooms all have sea views, all rooms come with private balcony and loungers.
All rooms have TV’s, mini bar, tea and a coffee machine for those who like freshly ground coffee. I also noticed a Delphina beach bag with flip flops and beach towels, what a great way to advertise your brand, as I definitely used mine and carried it around with me everywhere I went
Our first evening meal was really special and if you get the chance you really must put your name down for it. We were picked up and taken by buggy around the resort, the scenery even at night is spectacular huge natural boulders are perfectly lit, we didn’t know where we were heading but ended up by this little hut offered flip flops for easy walking.
We were served local Sparkling wine and had some a la carte aperitifs which were just delicious then off for our evening meal. Flip flops on we were escorted down to the beach where the hotel laid on 8 exclusive tables. I was right next to the sea and at a stretch could dip my toe, asking about high tides thinking in a while we will all have to be moved, no Sardinia doesn’t have high or low tides. So, incredible food, beautiful wine, good company and most of all breath-taking scenery what more could you ask for.
All Delphina hotels are on a half board basis so you have a buffet breakfast and evening meal, you can choose to eat at lunch time as that’s not a problem, as long as you let the reception know where you want to eat and at what time.
I cannot begin to tell you how good the food really is and the choices, they cater for everyone including gluten free, and other food intolerances and nut allergies. If you are unsure the waiters are always there to check to see if you're ok to eat what is on the menu. The restaurants for dinner offer self-service or waiter service and they are all very different, but one thing that’s the same is the food is exceptional.
When booking a Delphina resort staff are there to guide you to the best resort for your needs, couples or families there is something for everyone.
Sardinia is on the clearest Archipelago in the world and is the world’s only designated blue zones with 300 days of sunshine a year.
The sea is incredibly clear and warm so get your snorkel out and book a boat trip - from a boat you can truly see the amazing coast line
