The Irish funnyman got the voiceover from a tweet

Discover Ireland and Hollywood star Chris O’Dowd have teamed up to offer Londoners wishing to escape the chaos in the capital this summer an alternative world of empty beaches, green fields and friendly faces on the Emerald Isle.

O’Dowd has helped pen a film launched on www.discoverireland.com, as well as providing the voiceover and making a cameo appearance, in which two friends take two very different journeys; one to his desk in the City, the other to Ireland.

"The city can often take the form of a nice warm bath, cosy and deep. But this summer, it's going to boil over and spill a bit."

The stressful commute undertaken by ‘City Boy’ sees him heading across town to get to his desk to start a day of work, whilst the journey taken by ‘Yer Man’ to Ireland sees him on his way to a relaxing break.

Viewers are invited to ‘escape’ or ‘embrace’ the madness at the film’s conclusion for their chance to either experience Ireland for themselves or enjoy a VIP treatment at Irish House in London.

The link with O’Dowd came about after he sent a tweet announcing that he felt he should be the voice of the Tourism Ireland advertising campaign, and the rest is history.

Chris O’Dowd said: “I live in South London and love this vibrant place, most of the time. The city can often take the form of a nice warm bath, cosy and deep. But this summer, it's going to boil over and spill a bit.

“I think those who want to get away from the extra noise, crowds and hassle expected this summer, now could be the perfect time for a break.

“Ireland is only a short hop across the water and within two hours you could be surrounding yourself with beautiful scenery, good food and great craic with the friendliest locals in the world. So do what's best and go west,” he added.
