Haydock Racecourse

Haydock Racecourse

The Holiday Inn Haydock is ideally located just next to the M6 motorway and is right next door to the Haydock Park Racecourse. With Liverpool and Manchester in easy reach of just 1 mile, it’s the perfect pit stop if you are exploring the North West or looking for a day at the races.  Gulliver’s World is also only 6 miles away if you are searching for something to do with the kids.

With a tree lined driveway, although the hotel is situated next to the road and the motorway, it is set back enough to avoid the noise of the traffic. There is plenty of complimentary parking in a loop right around the hotel and more than one entrance so you don’t have to walk far from your car until you are inside the building.

At reception we were served by Abigail who asked us if we wanted a wakeup call and a newspaper. She also told us where to go for dinner as well as breakfast. We hadn’t made a reservation in the restaurant either so she ensured we had a table for 7pm.

The room itself was large, with a double bed, flat screen TV, dressing table, seating area and coffee and tea making facilities. The bathroom had a bath and a shower, as well as free shampoo, body wash and soap in case we had forgotten anything and fluffy white towels.

The hotel offered the choice of a sit down menu or buffet for the evening meal option. We selected the buffet, which was Mexican themed. There was a large selection of cold meats, salads, meatballs, bread, pizza, chicken in sauces, pasta, bolognaise, garlic bread and rice. With something for everyone, it was ideal for a cheaper option and filled us up just as much as three courses would have. Perfect for guests with big appetites!

We were served by Matthew who showed us around the buffet to the different options that were available as we had not stayed at the hotel before and then served us with some drinks.

We decided to have dessert in our room and so called down to the 24 hour room service and ordered it to enjoy in the comfort of our bed.

There was a lounge area that had large plasma screen TV in it forboth big and small sporting events and it also had its own menu for a lighter snack option to compliment a few drinks.

For those active guests there is a Spirit Health Club with a fitness suite and indoor pool, so plenty to fill your evening in with if you arrive at the hotel early.

The breakfast was buffet style again, with tea and coffee served at the table. There was a large selection of cooked options as well as cereals and fresh fruit for the healthy eater.

Although we didn’t experience it on our stay, the hotel boasts 11 meeting rooms and a 180 capacity Willow Suite which is designed for hosting big weddings against the backdrop of the surrounding trees, it makes for a great photo opportunity.

Overall, the stay was pleasant, with friendly staff, clean rooms and good food, the hotel has a lot going for it. It is perfect for people wanting to venture into Ashton for a meal or a few drinks too, as it’s only a short walk into the centre of the town.
