Ever since I watched Jonathan Creek as a teenager (and bought myself the dvd box set in last year's January sales) I have always wanted to live in a windmill….
Whilst I know that's probably never going to happen, I have now set my sights on saving up for this whole year and treating myself to a windmill holiday in 2012.… so over the next week or two, I'm going to share with you my favourite windmills on the web.

An ideal property for a couple, this detached, converted windmill enjoys extensive views across fields to distant hills.
Set in an elevated position, the windmill offers a somewhat unique self-catering holiday experience, the windmill is stone built, has narrow open tread stairs and, due to its size, is furnished with one room on each floor.
Rua Dos Moleiros
This charming converted windmill with its pretty, private garden and lovely sea views, is perfect for both access to the beach and experiencing the local culture. The Mill, Great Wallsingham, Norfolk

Situated within a complex of converted mill and granary buildings, it is able to accommodate a large family or a group holidaying together, and has been comfortably furnished throughout with all modern day conveniences – making it perfect for holidays at any time of year.
Internal beams, wooden floors and a wood-burning stove all enhance its aura of great character, whilst French doors open from many rooms onto the enclosed lawned garden with its sun terraces and seating. Pleasant walking is to be found locally amidst unspoilt parklands, where a gentle river meanders lazily alongside.
The Miller’s Barn, Stelling Minnis, Canterbury
This property is situated in the owner’s grounds and next to a working restored windmill (open summer weekends and occasionally for grinding demonstrations). It boasts 125 acres of common land grazed by Highland cattle. Local attractions include Canterbury, six miles, and Folkstone, nine miles.
Earnley Mill Cottage, Chichester
This delightful flint and stone single storey holiday cottage is located in the grounds of the owners home and former windmill.
