Imagine kicking off your fluffy white bedsheets, taking five steps away from your four poster bed and opening up your window to the sight of eleven elephants taking their morning drink from the natural pool of water in front of your hotel room. What may sound like a dreamy mirage was actually me, on the morning of my 30th birthday. Blissfully content whilst standing on the spacious balcony from my hotel room at The Four Seasons Serengeti Lodge.

There are few places in the world that have captured my heart quite like the vastly untouched plains of the Tanzanian Safari lands. The Serengeti is home to some of the most magnificent wildlife in the world with daily discoveries of leopards and cheetahs as well as the astonishing wildebeest migration. I travelled to Tanzania to see wild animals in their natural habitat and enjoy the wilderness of The Safari, the few days I spent in The Serengeti were some of my favourite days spent on earth.

As our tiny aircraft made it’s way down to land on the dusty Senora runway, the view from either side of our small plane window was not just that of the stunning African plains that stretched for miles in every direction but also of our first sighting of The Serengeti locals. With a shriek of excitement from every passenger on board it took us little time to identify the first animal to tick off our ‘Safari spot list’, the famously monochrome striped Zebras!

On arrival at the airport we were greeted by our hotel representative and also driver for our stay who took a few moments to check us into the national park and whisk us off on our first game drive of the trip. Our arrival was the day before my birthday and it seemed like the all the animals of Africa had taken it upon themselves to celebrate with me! In the two hours it took to drive towards our hotel we were fortunate enough to see giraffes, lions, elephants, gazelles, baboons, hyenas, warthogs, buffalos and even a lazy leopard!

After a day enjoying the close and comfortable interaction with nature we arrived at our hotel to a dreamy sunset fit for the dreamiest of resorts! The Four Seasons Serengeti Lodge is perfectly nestled into The Safari itself and stretches around a natural watering hole which is directly in front of the hotel’s large swimming pool.

After a busy and exciting day we retired straight to our luxurious bed and the following morning we were greeted at breakfast by two herds of elephants drinking from the watering hole directly in front of the hotel. It was a truly incredible sight to see and one that I don’t think could be matched elsewhere in the world! We had spotted elephants in the wild the day before but seeing them so up close and personal taking a morning dip right in front of our eyes was a truly ‘once in a lifetime’ experience!

After enjoying the company of the elephants for what felt like hours we headed out on our second day of game driving. To re-live the fairy tale all over again!
