Thinking about home

Thinking about home

A leading online travel agency found that the majority of young adults in Britain feel they are missing out on life back home if they go on holiday. One fifth even revealed that they were eager to get home as soon as they had landed they missed their home luxuries so much.

Sunshine found that those Brits one would think would enjoy the experience of going away, 18-25 year olds, are those who feel they are missing out on home comforts when they go on holiday.

The first question put to respondents of the poll was ‘Whilst on your last holiday abroad, did you worry that you were missing out on life back home in the UK?’ In response, 51% of those taking part said ‘yes’. Of these, the overwhelming majority (78%) had been on holiday with family members at the time, as opposed to a group of friends.

When asked what they missed most about home, they answered with the following top five:

1.       Gossip – 75%

2.       TV – 51%

3.       Social media – 48%

4.       Nights out – 33%

5.       Partner’s actions -19%

Surprisingly enough 11% also stated that they worried about work and what they were missing out on there, while they were on holiday.

The poll also revealed that a fifth, 19%, of the young adults taking part in the study had been ‘eager to get home’ almost as soon as they’d arrived in their last holiday destination. 22% admitted that their perception of missing out on something back home had affected their holiday to some degree.

Chris Clarkson, co-founder of sunshine.co.uk, said the following about the study:

“It’s a real shame that some young adults feel they are missing out on life back home in the UK when they’re supposed to be kicking back and taking some time out to enjoy their holiday. I think it’s really important to use a holiday as an opportunity to forget about life back home for a while and spend quality time with the people you’re there with.

“Chances are, not a thing will have changed by the time you get back home and it won’t be long before you’re wishing you were on holiday again, so don’t take the trip for granted and wish your holiday away!”
