They say we are influenced by what we watch on the TV and it appears to be the case when making our minds up for our summer holiday.

As ‘Made in Chelsea in New York’ hit our screens last night, the airline company, British Airways, discovered Britons are really swayed by what they see on TV.

The airline saw a substantial increase in the number of views on the New York page of its website, during and in the hour after ‘Made in Chelsea in New York’ aired on E4 at 9pm.

The new swathe of small screen holidaymakers are referred to by the airline’s holiday experts as ‘TV travellers', for their tendency to surf online for fantasy holidays during or after a popular TV programme has aired.

For a ‘Made in Chelsea’-style holiday experience, British Airways Holidays’ New York Destination Manager, Caroline Smith, recommends the following hotels:

Top 5 programmes which have prompted a noticeable spike in searches for hotels and flights in a location featured are:

1. Made in Chelsea in New York – New York

2. Operation Wild with Claire Balding – China and Chengdu

3. The Trip to Italy with Steve Coogan and Rob Brydon – Italy

4. Mad Men – New York

5. Benidorm – Spain and Alicante

Claire Bentley, British Airways Holidays’ Managing Director, said: “We often see a rise in the number of people searching for holidays to a particular destination after a world event or a high profile Royal visit, but it’s fascinating to see how many people really do seem to be influenced by what they watch on TV.

Some people then purchase holidays, others will simply be searching for inspiration for their next trip away. Recently we’ve been surprised and entertained by the number of customers who have asked for holidays at ‘The Solana’ in Benidorm.”
