Have you twisted the truth about your holiday to friends and family?

As a result, two thirds of holidaymakers have returned home feeling more in need of a break than when they set off and a massive three quarters of holidaymakers found moments of their last holiday stressful.

One in ten people have even bent the truth when telling friends and colleagues about their trip to make it sound more eventful than just spending their afternoons by the pool.

It seems that many people would rather come back from their holiday exhausted from all the activities they’ve fitted in, rather than admit to having spent a week doing very little...

The survey of more than 500 travellers found that the British struggle to switch off and relax on holiday. Over a quarter (27 per cent) went away with an itinerary of activities to tick off, while 16 per cent said they visited tourist sights just because they felt obliged to, but later wish they hadn’t bothered.

Just one in three holidaymakers find time to sit back with a good book, while only 14 per cent manage to treat themselves to a total digital detox, avoiding the obligatory text, email or smug update to their social media status.

Skyscanner’s Victoria Bailie said: “Holidays are traditionally a time to unwind, switch off and recharge the batteries, but it’s interesting that our research shows that many people actually feel guilty relaxing on holiday. In many cases, holidaymakers come back more stressed out than before they left.

“It seems that many people would rather come back from their holiday exhausted from all the activities they’ve fitted in, rather than admit to having spent a week doing very little while colleagues share stories of their amazing adventures.”
