What's your best excuse for a holiday?

What's your best excuse for a holiday?

An online UK travel agency has launched an online excuse generator for those looking to get a week or two off work to spend in the sun, leading their boss to believe they are out of the office for a different reason.

Once an excuse is generated, users are shown details of last minute holidays they can take advantage of after they’ve put the excuse to the test.

Not everyone can come up with a believable enough excuse to use when calling their boss to try and get time off, so we thought we’d give them a helping hand

With the beginning of the year a common time for Britons to want to escape to sunnier climes, www.sunshine.co.uk has come up with a unique idea that will make it easier for employees to make their excuses to their managers and book themselves on the next flight out of the country.

The travel site experienced its highest rate of holiday bookings on Monday 7th January, following which the site came up with the idea to create an excuse generator that would enable people to get out of work and onto the next flight abroad to a warmer location.

The site, www.weekoffwork.co.uk, encourages people who are ‘bored of work’, ‘sick’ of their boss or that are ‘just plain lazy’ to hit a ‘generate excuse’ button. Once done, this brings up an excuse that the person can use when calling or messaging their boss, in order to give them a reason not to go to work.

Once they’ve picked an excuse they like, users are shown a list of hotels to pick from, in destinations such as Spain and Portugal, which they can click on to be led through to a page on sunshine.co.uk that lets them book a room, along with flights, instantly.

Users can also submit their own excuses, if they feel they have an even better idea than those revealed by the generator.

Chris Clarkson, co-founder of sunshine.co.uk, said: “Not everyone can come up with a believable enough excuse to use when calling their boss to try and get time off, so we thought we’d give them a helping hand.

“What we can’t promise though, is that some of the excuses in our weekoffwork.co.uk generator won’t end in job loss or some kind of disciplinary at work. For those that use the excuses successfully, we wish you a happy holiday!”

Those visiting weekoffwork.co.uk can generate as many excuses as they like and are able to vote for the excuses that worked for them and the ones that didn’t with a ‘thumbs up’ or ‘thumbs down’ symbol.

They can also ‘share’ the excuse they’ve used with their friends on Twitter or Facebook, although sunshine.co.uk does not recommend this for those not wishing to be ‘caught out’.
