Weekend Break Abroad Tops List of Desired Valentine’s Day Gifts for UK Women
It appears that the traditional gifts of flowers and chocolates are no longer desirable for women to receive from their partners on Valentine’s Day.
Instead, and as new research by an online UK travel agency has revealed, the top present on the wish lists of UK female adults in relationships, is a weekend break abroad.
www.sunshine.co.uk polled 2,147 female adults from the UK about Valentine’s gifts. All those taking part had been in a relationship with the same person for at least two years.
Initially, those taking part were asked what they would most like from their partner as a gift this Valentine’s Day, and low and behold, a weekend break abroad was the number one choice for 51 per cent of respondents (scroll down for list of top ten most desirable gifts).
Chris Clarkson, co-founder of sunshine.co.uk, said: “I was shocked to see that so many women would want a weekend break abroad as a Valentine’s gift.
“I’m sure there are plenty of guys out there who would also like to treat their lady to a romantic trip somewhere, but unfortunately their budget might not always allow such extravagance.”
One respondent who selected ‘other’ said that she would like a new car from her partner, whilst five different respondents stated they’d like a puppy.
When asked ‘Would you be OK with it if your partner just bought you a card for Valentine’s Day?’ almost three quarters said no.
Chris added: “What was also surprising was how far down the list ‘flowers’ featured.
“I think a lot of men impulse-buy things like flowers, chocolates and jewellery when it’s Valentine’s Day, but perhaps they need to think more outside the box and offer something more surprising.
“If a trip abroad or in the UK is what you think your partner would like, discuss it with them and perhaps both contribute to the cost of the trip. After all, women need to get gifts for their partners on Valentine’s Day too!”
