Andrew Sachs has landed a role in 'Coronation Street'.
The former 'Fawlty Towers' star will make his debut in the ITV1 soap later this year, a spokesperson for the channel has confirmed.
The source said: "I can confirm that Andrew Sachs has taken us up on the offer. He will be joining us later this year. At this moment, I cannot go into any further details."
It has previously been rumoured that Andrew was being lined up to play an assistant to shop worker Norris Cole.
However, the 78-year-old star has played down the news of his new role and refused to give any details.
He said: "There are moves afoot to do 'Coronation Street'. They sent me the synopsis, which I can't talk about because it is deadly secret and they would probably behead me."
The veteran actor returned to the public eye in October after radio host Russell Brand and his guest, fellow BBC Radio 2 presenter Jonathan Ross left lewd messages on his answering machine about his granddaughter Georgina Bailie.
Although Russell resigned following the scandal and Jonathan was suspended from all his work with the network for 12 weeks, Andrew says he has been "absurdly busy" since the incident. He added: "Things have been piling up since the whole business. This is a dodgy profession generally and I always think my next job will be my last."
