The TV host - who was a huge star in the 90s, presenting 'Blue Peter' and 'GMTV' - is said to be "embarrassed and upset" over her career and is frustrated her latest project has been put back.
The 49-year-old star had hoped to fill the Charter Theatre in Preston - which seats an audience of 780 - with her 'Audience With Anthea' show, which would have taught women how to be perfect housewives.
A source at the Charter Theatre said: "The ticket sales for the show here were terrible.
I'm sure her show is very interesting for women wanting to play the housewife but it just never took off. It's a shame for her.

As well as tonight's planned performance - which would have included secrets about how to use a lemon in housecleaning - Anthea was also due to star in the Guildhall Arts Centre in Grantham, Linconshire.
It has been reported there were not enough tickets - which cost £16.50 each - sold for their either evening.
Anthea's manager Michael Joyce has denied the claims and insists the shows were merely postponed because she has had to fly over to the US for a TV show.
He told the Daily Star newspaper: "They have been postponed because Anthea has got involved with a North American TV show and had to fly out at short notice.
