'Coronation Street' actor Chris Gascoyne thinks his character Peter Barlow could be dead by next year.

'Coronation Street' actor Chris Gascoyne thinks his character may die next year.

The 43-year-old star "really enjoys" finding out what is going to happen to his alter-ego Peter Barlow in the ITV1 soap and he wouldn't be surprised if the boozy bookmaker ended up six-feet under in 2012.

That's one of the things I really enjoy - finding out how his life is going to unfold.

Chris - who has played the part on-and-off for 11 years - said: "You never know with Peter. This time next year he could easily be dead.

"That's one of the things I really enjoy - finding out how his life is going to unfold."

Peter was nearly killed earlier this year when a tram crashed in Weatherfield leaving him trapped and on death's door, but he married wife Leanne (Jane Danson) from a hospital bed and went on to recover.

However, he now looks set to leave Leanne for Carla Connor (Alison King) because his relationship with her has become too "boring".

Chris added to TV Times magazine: "Peter likes the chase. Leanne's become his wife and his little boy's mum, and it's become boring to him.

"I think it would be the same with Carla when reality kicks in and they have to go to work, or Simon is sick in the middle of the night."
