David Tennant's Jack Bauer Dream

David Tennant would like to become the next Jack Bauer.

The 'Doctor Who' actor - who is due to leave his role as the eponymous Time Lord at the end of 2009 after a series of TV specials - said, when given a list of prospective career moves, he'd most like to star in US TV drama '24'.

Speaking on Britain's Radio One, David, 37, said: "So - from the choices you've given - I've got a doctor in 'Casualty', landlord behind the bar in the 'Queen Vic' [in BBC soap EastEnders] or being Jack Bauer... I think I'll take Jack Bauer."

David may not yet quite have the steely composure required for action hero Jack- who is currently played by US actor Keifer Sutherland - as he also revealed he cried as he read his final script for Doctor Who.

He added: "I turned the phone off and read it without interruption. I might have had a little cry. They were brilliant scripts and very moving. It was quite a big deal."

The script describes how David will die and regenerate into new doctor Matt Smith.

The Scottish actor, who played Doctor Who for four years, also said he won't be taking any mementos of his role with him when he leaves.

He said: "Memorabilia just becomes stuff quite quickly - it's the memories you take with you that matter.

'Planet of the Dead', the first Doctor Who special, is shown on BBC1 on Easter Sunday (12.04.09).
