'Big Brother' presenter Davina McCall is in danger of losing her job.
The 41-year-old star infuriated network bosses when she said the Channel 4 show is facing the axe.
Davina - who has hosted the reality show for nine years - claimed the series would not be renewed when the current contract runs out at the end of 2010.
She said: "It's definitely only got two years left".
But Channel 4 executives are adamant the programme will continue.
A source told Britain's The Sun newspaper: "Since when did Davina appoint herself commissioning editor of Channel 4? 'Big Brother' is not going away. It's one of the channels flagship shows."
We have two years left on our current contract and it is far too early to speculate on new negotiations.
Under the current agreement, programme makers Endemol and Channel 4 are contracted to produce three more series - 'Big Brother 10', which starts on June 4, 'Celebrity Big Brother' in January 2010, and 'Big Brother 11' later that year.
After that, a new deal will have to be negotiated.
A spokeswoman for Channel 4 refused to discuss the show's future, saying: "We have two years left on our current contract and it is far too early to speculate on new negotiations."
Last year's 'Big Brother' had the worst ratings ever for the show, with 5.1 million viewers watching contestant Rachel Rice win the final.
In an effort to boost flagging audiences, Channel 4 is planning to screen a tribute to the series' most famous star Jade Goody, who lost her battle with cervical cancer in March.
