Davina McCall's Chat Show Plan

Davina McCall wants to host a chat show to rival Oprah Winfrey's.

The 'Big Brother' presenter is hoping to echo the success of US superstar Oprah - whose self titled programme is one of the most successful of all time - with a show based around regular people rather than celebrities.

She said: "I'm not Oprah but it's that kind of thing. I prefer talking to ordinary people rather than famous people.

Davina's new programme will be made this year and is expected to be aired on either Sky or Five. She is hoping it will meet a warmer reception than her 2006 BBC talk show 'Davina', which flopped.

'Davina' was crushing and the worst thing was the pity I got from people. I'm still fairly bruised. It was awful and I was glad to have 'Big Brother' to come back to.

She added: "'Davina' was crushing and the worst thing was the pity I got from people. I'm still fairly bruised. It was awful and I was glad to have 'Big Brother' to come back to."

Davina will front the latest series of reality show 'Big Brother' - which she has hosted since its inception ten years ago - which stars next week on Channel 4.

The new show venture also means Davina is out of the running to replace Fern Britton on ITV daytime show 'This Morning'.

She explained to Britain's The Sun newspaper: "It is great, but as a presenter you are produced. I want some control in what I do next."

Davina is not the only famous face interested in hosting, as Girls Aloud singer Sarah Harding is also hoping to break into the chat show format.

A source said: "Sarah knows Girls Aloud can't go on forever so she thinks working in TV is the way forward. Ideally she'd like to do some sort of music and chat show."
