Gary Barlow's boy band search

Gary Barlow is set to launch a new reality TV show on the BBC to search for a boy band.

The 37-year-old singer first offered the series to ITV - who broadcast series 'Britannia High', on which he was chief songwriter.

Gary is really keen to get into TV and has come up with a cracking idea. We have got high hopes for it. If it gets off the ground, it could be something we do every year.

ITV turned it down amid fears they would upset 'The X Factor' boss Simon Cowell by introducing a rival to his show, which searches for the best singers and groups in the country.

After being rejected from ITV, Gary took the concept to the BBC - who are very keen to air the series later this year.

A source said: "Gary is really keen to get into TV and has come up with a cracking idea. We have got high hopes for it. If it gets off the ground, it could be something we do every year."

Gary shot to fame as part of Take That in the 90s and is currently enjoying renewed success with the band following a 2006 reunion.
