Gok Wan puts on a 'pantomime' to help his TV subjects relax when he first meets them.
The 'How To Look Good Naked' host uses techniques learned in drama school to help the show's subjects relax when filming his often emotionally charged show, about how ordinary people can look good both in and out of their clothes.
Speaking at Gatwick Fashion Week, Gok told BANG Showbiz: "I just be real and honest with them. It always takes them about a day for them to stop looking at me like - 'wow you're a celebrity, I can't talk to you'.
Then you feel them changing slightly, so we do the whole thing again, so they're more relaxed.
"After that - I'm a trained actor - so I use a lot of old drama techniques, lots of swearing, lots of jokes, lots of cuddling, very tactile, and when people feel safe in your environment they open up."
The fashion stylist also added he only meets the people who star in his show for the first time on camera.
He said: "I have no time with them at all before the show. I don't choose them, I don't have time to meet them, when I see them in front of the mirror; that is genuinely the first time I see them.
"After we've filmed the first block - which is about four hours on camera constantly - we stop and I go and make them a cup of tea, have a cigarette, and just be normal with them.
"Then you feel them changing slightly, so we do the whole thing again, so they're more relaxed."
London Gatwick Fashion Week, held at the airport from August 6-9, gave fashion advice and tips to holidaymakers as well as promoting the benefits of duty free shopping.
