X Factors Joe McElderry wins alround praise from the judges

Joe McElderry received a standing ovation from all four 'X Factor' judges last night (21.11.09).

The teenager's mentor Cheryl Cole told him he had "stolen the show" with his programme-closing rendition of George Michael and Elton John's duet 'Don't Let The Sun Go Down On Me', though the performance sparked another spat between Louis Walsh and Simon Cowell.

Louis - who has previously accused his fellow panelists of bending the rules of the weekly themes to suit their acts - said: "That was definitely the best performance of the night. You've got great appeal. Madam's broken the rules because that was an Elton John song."

Me and Simon sat down and discussed it. I've had a really up and down period in this show but I feel so lucky to be here and thank you Simon for being behind me.

Simon blasted his comments, saying: "Here's a new rule. We're going to stop you from speaking. After this young kid gets up on stage and does the performance of his life, absolutely 100 per cent nailed the song, and you've got the audacity to sit there with your silly stupid rule book and say he only sang half the song. Who cares what you think?"

Danyl Johnson commented on reports this week that he had threatened to quit the show over the choice of song he had been given, with his mentor Simon admitting the teacher's decision not to sing 'Praying For Time' was right.

Speaking after his performance of 'Careless Whisper', Danyl said: "Me and Simon sat down and discussed it. I've had a really up and down period in this show but I feel so lucky to be here and thank you Simon for being behind me."

Also on the show, Lloyd Daniels sang 'Faith', winning complements for his new spiky hair style, twins John and Edward sang 'I'm Your Man' interspersed with 'The Wham Rap', Olly Murs impressed the judges with 'Fast Love' and Stacey Soloman sang 'I Can't Make You Love Me'.
