'X Factor' duo John and Edward are virgins.

According to friends of the 18-year-old twins, the boys have never had sex and neither have had a relationship lasting more than a few days because people in their hometown, Dublin, think they are "village idiots".

One friend said: "Some people round here see them as village idiots. They didn't get much female attention before the show. John had a girlfriend when he was 15 and that's the only time we've seen either of them with a girl."

Another source added to the Daily Star newspaper: "They're definitely virgins. They're more interested in their hair and becoming famous than girls.

"Don't get me wrong, they'll love the female attention they're getting. But they know that can come after they've made the most of their time on the 'X Factor'.

Meanwhile, the Irish duo's father - also called John - said his sons love their new sex symbol status.

He explained: "They do have an eye for the ladies. I think they like the attention and are milking it, like any young lads would."

John also admitted he and the boys' mother, Susan, find it difficult hearing the boys being criticised so "viciously" on the show.

He added: "Some of the things said are vicious and as parents it knows you for six. There's been booing and that's tough because they're so young.

"The first week the boys were on the show they were shocked at all the hate campaigns on the internet. But they've grown in confidence now - they take it with a pinch of salt.

"They haven't been reduced to tears and I'd be surprised if they were. They were born to do this but at the same time they don't take it too seriously. They're determined to enjoy it."
