Jonathan Ross Given MIT Award

Jonathan Ross has been honoured by the music industry.

Pop star George Michael presented the controversial host with the 2009 Music Industry Trusts' (MIT) award last night (02.11.09), with stars including Will Smith, U2 and Tom Jones paying tribute at the ceremony, at London's Grosvenor House Hotel.

Jonathan said he felt humbled by being given the award for his commitment to the music industry, after the panel described him as: "The UK's most important broadcasting star-maker".

He said: "I'm not fully confident I deserve this award because this honour is really just being given the chance to share something I'm passionate about, which is of course music. I'm incredibly fortunate.''

On giving him the award George joked they share much in common, saying: "We still have similar aspects, we both have our own hair, we're both on TV, we're both adored by the public and Press alike.

''And now we've got something else in common, we've both achieved the honour of a MITs award and that's something very much to be proud of.''

More than 1,000 celebrities and music industry members attended the dinner to see Ross receive the award.

In his tribute Hollywood icon Will Smith said: "You are important to me and to my life. This is a very prestigious award."
