Kara Tointon and Ricky Groves are leaving 'EastEnders'.
The pair - who play on/off couple Dawn Swann and Gary Hobbs - will both bow out of the BBC soap in a dramatic storyline this summer, but bosses are keeping details of their exit under wraps.
A source said: "Viewers will have to wait and see if there is a happy ending or whether they go their separate ways."
Executive producer Diederick Santer said the screen couple's love would be "truly put to the test".
He added: "Ricky and Kara go with our thanks and best wishes".
Ricky, 40 - who has been in the show for 10 years - and Kara's contracts were due to expire this year.
Kara, 25, said: "It has been the best four years of my life. I will always hold the show dear to my heart and be an avid fan.
"I'm excited about what the next few months have in store for Dawn and as an actress I look forward to trying new roles."
