Karen Gillan Vows No Romance

Karen Gillan has promised her alter-ego Amy Pond isn't romantically involved with The Doctor.

The actress - who recently joined 'Doctor Who' as the assistant of the latest Time Lord, played by Matt Smith - is adamant the screen duo are just good friends who have an "equal relationship."

She said: "I can't really say too much about them, but the dynamic between them is definitely not shaped around romance. She's a person in her own right - she's not just The Doctor's companion, she's Amy Pond - and I think he needs her as much as she needs him. It's a very equal relationship."

She has all the components of someone who can go on these adventures with The Doctor but she kind of rivals him and doesn't take his word as gospel all the time.

Although it has previously been confirmed the pair do kiss on screen, 22-year-old Karen says Amy is a "feisty" and independent woman.

She added to DigitalSpy: "Amy is a sassy lady - a force of nature. She really keeps The Doctor on his toes and is very feisty.

"She has all the components of someone who can go on these adventures with The Doctor but she kind of rivals him and doesn't take his word as gospel all the time."

Matt - who at 27 is the youngest actor to portray the time-travelling Doctor - also claims the pair have become close off-screen as a result of working together.

He said: "We have grown very fond of one another. It's something we work hard at. I hope the tone of our relationship comes across as playful."
