Louis Walsh fears he has been cursed by the Mafia.

The 'X Factor' judge was hit by a run of bad luck while in Italy with the groups he is mentoring, and is worried the incidents are connected to a chilling warning he received during the 2007 auditions.

After he turned down 69-year-old Johnny Rocco, telling him he was "just a pub entertainer", the contestant warned: "You're talking stupid. I will make you kiss my feet. Remember my name," before muttering in Italian, prompting fellow panellist Simon Cowell to joke he had been given a "Mafia death threat."

The 57-year-old judge has now been left rattled following as disastrous trip to Italy.

Louis didn't take the threat seriously at first but now he is really wondering if it could be real.

On arrival in Milan, Louis' luggage was missing. When he ventured into the city, the previously-hot day was suddenly hit by a thunderstorm, holding back filming and preventing Louis and his guest, Boyzone star Ronan Keating, taking a boat to join his contestants - Harmony Hood, Kandy Rain, Miss Frank, De-Tour, Project A and John and Edward - on Lake Como.

He was also disturbed by rattling on his door late at night and had a shadowy figure reportedly following him during a trip out of his villa.

A show insider said: "Louis didn't take the threat seriously at first but now he is really wondering if it could be real."

Johnny insists Louis had got what he deserved, and pledged to audition again for the show.

He told Britain's Daily Star newspaper: "Louis has had his just deserts. He messed with me and bad-mouthed me and now he's paid the price.

"Maybe this will stop people like him judging me so quickly and being so nasty.

"Even though it's been two years since I was on 'X Factor' I still get called 'The Mafia Man'. Maybe I will re-audition next year. I bet the judges won't be so hasty about kicking me out then."
