Richard Gere is set to appear on 'Strictly Come Dancing'.

The 'Pretty Woman' actor has been approached to perform with Katya Virshilas - who partners former cricketer Phil Tuffnel in the competition - for a special one-off appearance.

Richard has previously working with the professional dancer on 2004 movie 'Shall We Dance'.

Mariah Carey and Pamela Anderson are also being lined up.

A source told The Sun newspaper: "The BBC is desperate to woo back viewers who have switched to 'The X Factor'. ITV is hammering the show in the ratings so bosses think getting some high-profile names on will do the trick.

"Mariah Carey and Pamela Anderson are also being lined up."

A spokesperson for the show refused to confirm the actor's appearance, but did say they were in talks with several celebrities about making an appearance.

Richard is not the only Hollywood star Katya has helped teach to dance and she admits she loves getting the opportunity to teach her skills to famous faces.

She said: "Jennifer Lopez is a bit of a diva but also has respect for dancers because of her background. It was great to dance with Antonio Banderas. He's short but very sexy."
