Robbie Williams will star in a one-off TV Christmas special hosted by Ant and Dec.

The singer - who made his comeback last week on ITV1's 'The X Factor'- will be the celebrity guest on the variety show.

The news comes as Robbie, 35, faced criticism for a nervous 'X Factor' performance and his new single 'Bodies' has been overtaken in the midweek charts by Alexandra Burke - last year's winner of the TV talent show.

A source told The Sun newspaper: "Ant and Dec have been given the green light to make a Christmas special which will be ITV1's big family entertainment show this Christmas.

Starring in the show with Ant and Dec could give Robbie's profile a boost by starring in a string of comedy sketches with the pair. The trio will also sing live together as part of a grand finale to the programme.

However, while Robbie has agreed to the TV show - the singer has ruled out signing up for a tour.

While he will play a live show at the BBC Electric Proms in London later this month he said he is refusing to play any more concerts as he is terrified of having a nervous breakdown.

Robbie - who has battled problems with admitted drink and drugs in the past - said: "I cannot imagine touring in the near future. I've smashed my head against a wall too many times and I know it's harder than I am."
