Merry Men Axed

Robin Hood has sacked his band of Merry Men.

When the new series of the BBC drama hits screens in Spring none of Robin's previous companions - Little John, Will Scarlett, Allan A. Dale, Much and Djaq - will return.

One said: "It is three months since Maid Marian's death and Robin is a changed man.

"Tougher, he's sacked his gang since they all returned from the Holy Land."

Robin - played by Jonas Armstrong - will be hellbent of avenging the death of Marian, who was killed by Guy of Gisborne (Richard Armitage).

The outlaw will gain two new friends - Friar Tuck (David Harewood) and Kate (Joanne Frogatt) - who help him exact his revenge.

It has previously been revealed Kate will also become Robin's love interest.

Although little about the romance plot has been revealed, Joanne has spoken of her excitement at landing the part.

She said: "I got to wear amazing period costumes and I did some fighting in the forest. In one scene I had to kick one of the actors in the stomach - it had gone really well in previous takes but in the last one I somehow managed to split his lip and he needed thee stitches.

"I felt so bad I nearly cried but he was really good about it."
