Sarah Harding is set to appear in a new BBC TV drama about the credit crunch.

The Girls Aloud star - who recently sparked rumours she is engaged to boyfriend Tom Crane after wearing a diamond band on her ring finger - will star as the beautician girlfriend of a City banker in the show titled 'Freefall'.

Writer Dominic Savage, who also revealed he has approached Lily Allen's brother Alfie to star in the programme, said: "This is a film essentially about greed that in many ways has got out of control. It is a film that reflects our obsession with wanting more, wanting everything, the desire in many of us to gain the world, but in doing so, potentially lose our souls.

"'Freefall' reflects those complexities, needs and conflicts that I believe exists in us all."

Sarah, who will be required to improvise when she shoots her scenes on 'Freefall', explained her decision to star in the show has the support of her Girls Aloud bandmates.

She told Britain's The Sun newspaper: "Dominic Savage's films are all about improvisation, which is pretty challenging, but that's also a big reason why I want to do the project. It's so different to what I am used to.

"It's a bit nerve-wracking too not having all my girls with me. They are really supportive though, and can't wait to see the end result."
