Sean Bean is set to star in a TV series based on 'Robinson Crusoe'.
The 'Sharpe' actor will play Crusoe's father James in flashback scenes in the adaptation of Daniel Defoe's classic novel.
American actor Philip Winchester - who starred in 2004 movie 'Thunderbirds' - will take the lead role, while Australian 'Jurassic Park' actor Sam Neill will also star.
a landmark piece of television
The £13 million British production - which is penned by 'Doctor Who' writer Stephen Gallagher - will originally be made for US TV network NBC, but could be broadcast in the UK if it is a success.
Production company Power, who are based in the UK, have promised the series will be "a landmark piece of television".
The show will see Crusoe and his companion Man Friday, a role which has yet to be cast, face hungry cannibals and wild cats.
Filming of the 13 episodes will take place in the UK, South Africa and the Seychelles.
