Sharon Osbourne and Richard Madeley quit 'Strictly Come Dancing' last night (28.07.09) over a pay row.

Producers of the BBC One reality dancing show are now struggling to find replacements for the forthcoming series after the celebrity contestants' fees were reportedly cut at the last minute by BBC chief Jay Hunt -who has enforced a 30 percent reduction in costs.

Former 'The X Factor' judge Sharon and chat show host Richard reportedly walked away from the dance competition because the fee they were offered was "ridiculous".

A BBC source told Britain's Daily Mirror newspaper: "Jay has no idea how to finesse a situation, especially with talent, and there's a lot of disquiet.

ridiculous.A BBC source told Britain's Daily Mirror newspaper:

"Sharon is a serious player in 'America's Got Talent' but what the BBC finally offered her was ridiculous."

It has also been reported the show's professional dancers are refusing to sign their contracts because their £35,000 salary is also being substantially cut.

The BBC has been heavily criticised recently after sacking dance expert Arlene Phillips, 66, from the judges panel and replacing her with former winner Alesha Dixon.

Show host Bruce Forsyth has also been forced to take a £160,000 cut from his £660,000 salary.

'Strictly Come Dancing' is due to start in September.
