Simon Cowell feels "trapped" by his fame.
'The X Factor' boss admits he sometimes gets overwhelmed by his responsibilities, which include running his Syco record label and working both behind the scenes and as a panellist on reality TV shows such as 'Britain's Got Talent' and 'American Idol'.
He said: "I get to a point where I get overloaded, where you can have a week or a month where you're responsible for so many things. You have to deal with so many people.
"This can go on from leaving the office until five or six in the morning. Sometimes you feel it's like a tidal wave of stuff that continues to come."
Yeah, you do feel trapped. You don't want to let anybody down.
In an interview to be shown on BBC current affairs programme 'Newsnight' tonight (14.12.09) Simon is then asked if he ever suffers with "dark moods", to which he replied: "Yeah, don't you?"
He added: "Yeah, you do feel trapped. You don't want to let anybody down.
"You have a responsibility to the people who work with you that the decisions you make have got to be good decisions.
"It can get too much and then they'll realise I'm making bad decisions, so I have to sort my head out.
"Sometimes you're happy, sometimes you get a bit down, and when I'm down I like to be quiet and then I work things out in my head again."
He also said that to avoid "bullying and arguing", the contestants on next year's edition of 'The X Factor' will live in separate hotel rooms, rather than together in the same house, as they did this year.
