'Strictly Come Dancing' competitors have reportedly turned to alcohol in a bid to calm their nerves before dancing on the TV talent show.

The stars are said to be so nervous before showing off their dancing skills on the live programme that they have been smuggling alcohol into the BBC centre and slipping it into their fruit juice.

A source said: "It's amazing that a couple of the competitors can walk in as straight line, let alone dance. It's no surprise there is such a happy atmosphere behind the scenes. Some of the dancing celebrities must be half-cut by the end of the show. Several of the celebrity dancers have been sipping a lot of fruit juice and have certainly been given a lift by it.

However, some of the drink is so strong it's a wonder that some of them can put one foot in front of the other.

However, producers have now realised what has been going on behind the scenes, and are determined to put a stop to it.

The source added to Britain's Daily Star newspaper: "Producers have had a quiet word with those they believe responsible and warned them to stop bringing in booze.

"It's hardly a surprise in many ways because some of the celebrities are shaking like leaves before they go in front of the cameras. They really are nervous."
