William Roache is pleased his son got to portray a "baddy" on 'Coronation Street'.

The 79-year-old actor - who plays Ken Barlow in the ITV1 soap - has "loved" being able to act alongside his son James while he portrayed the 'Corrie' legend's deceptive grandson, also called James.

To play a baddy has been great for James. It's a shocking story, as the character of James was so nice and caring on the surface, but all the time there was this monster lurking within him.

He said: "I loved this storyline - we really couldn't have asked for anything better.

Meanwhile, James - who is soon set to depart the cobbles when it is revealed his cruel alter-ego stole money from kind-hearted Ken - admitted it would be "fantastic" to return to the soap because it has such a "family significance" for him.

He added to Inside Soap magazine: "If the storyline and the opportunity arose, it would be fantastic to come back.

"Because of James' disposition, I don't think he has it in him to become a full-time resident on the cobbles, though. But hopefully Ken won't hold grudges - and might even want to build bridges with his grandson later on.

"I was very privileged to be asked to 'Coronation Street' for this plot. It has such a family significance for me - I really love this place!"
