Show regulars Janice, Madge and Michael are back

Benidorm is back and bigger than ever with more guest appearances than you could swing a cat at.

With Joan Collins, Matthew Kelly, Nicholas Burns, Philip Olivier, The Krankies and Rustie Lee all lined up to star in the series, The Solana resort and Joyce Temple-Savage (Sherrie Hewson) truly have their work cut out for them.

In the first episode of the new series, the Garvey family have arrived in Spain but run into a few problems at the airport. After being detained by customs officers, a suspicious package is found in Mick's (Steve Pemberton) bag, leading to Janice (Siobhan Finneran), Madge (Sheila Reid) and Michael (Ollie Stokes) leaving him to deal with the problem and heading to the now four-star Solana resort on their own.

Fresh faces for this series are Clive and Tonya Dyke (Perry Benson and Hannah Waddingham), who aren't happy at all with the state of their booked room - and with them comes son Tiger (Danny Walters) who leads Michael into trouble and parts of Benidorm he hasn't yet explored.

Resident holiday-goers Donald and Jacqueline (Kenny Ireland and Janine Duvitski) are back and hoping to cash in on the free holiday offered to them by Joyce last year, but when she refuses to accept it was ever an offer she made, they stage a protest like no other for all to see.

Mateo (Jake Canuso), Lesley (Tim Healy) and Liam (Adam Gillen) all keep the laughs coming with the unpredictable twists and turns their lives at the Solana take, but Kenneth (Tony Maudsley) has been reduced to a depressive drunk who's being bombarded with mystery messages that he'd rather forget.

Show creator Derren Litten has done a great job with the show this time around in that though we're on a sixth series, the gags that keep coming aren't recycled, old or unfunny. They keep us laughing and continue to impress, and the series looks like it's going to be a great one.

'Benidorm' airs on January 2 at 9pm on ITV.
