A new study has shown that on average, a Briton spends a full 21 days each year watching their favourite television box sets.

The research conducted by www.vouchercloud.com shows that The Walking Dead beats Game of Thrones and Breaking Bad as the UK's current favourite box set, with a total of 2,143 UK adults polled.

All of those questioned were asked "Do you watch television series' as box sets?" and a whopping 88% said yes, which went on to yield their top ten shows:

1) The Walking Dead – 61%
2) Game of Thrones – 53%
3) Breaking Bad – 49%
4) Orange is the New Black – 41%
5) The Big Bang Theory – 38%
6) The Sopranos – 34%
7) Homeland – 30%
8) 24 – 25%
9) True Blood – 24%
10) Downton Abbey – 17%

Respondents added that on average they spend around 10 hours a week watching box sets, which equates to 520 hours over a year, or 21 full days.

43% of those who watch use online streaming services, with just 23% viewing their favourite shows via DVD or Blu-Ray and the remaining 34% using both methods.

An average of £102 was spent on streaming services compared to £55 on physical sets in the past year.

vouchercloud.com's Matthew Wood commented: “It’s fair to say that there really is a plethora of rich and varied television at the moment and we really are spoilt for choice.  No longer do we have to invest in expensive DVD box sets, thanks to the affordable and accessible streaming services, meaning that people aren’t as tempted to watch these illegally.”
